The type of swimsuit you wear, apparently says a lot about your personality, according to a not-very -scientific article I came across in Glamour magazine.
Admittedly, this concept has more basis in fun than anything else, but I like the idea that a pastel pink one piece, might allude to some greater meaning.
A ‘midlife reframe’, perhaps, whereby the desire for sustainability and feel-good are brought to the fore, in equal measure?
As a eco-conscious brand, Blake Swimwear resonates with my growing interest in slow fashion, while the styles and colours tie in nicely with the ‘dopamine dressing’ concept that I’ve waxed poetic about, on more occasions than I’ve kept count of.
This summer in particular, the question of ‘if not now, then when?’ has hung over my summer swimsuit decisions, and I find myself as a result, with a poolside wardrobe that it is more a testament to attitude, than it is advancing age.
It’s high-legs, low-backs… and colours that resonate with that burgeoning feminine urge (to coin one of Instagram’s favourite buzzwords!) to…. not blend in.
In other words, to self-celebrate, and move out of the ‘just a mum’ era where style is shackled to practicality, and into… something else.
This ‘swimwear shift’ has been made possible, in part, thanks to Blake Swimwear’s luxurious designs, a hallmark of which is the medium-compression, Italian towelling fabric - the secret to a ‘cinched’ silhouette.
Compared to standard swimsuit fabric, this slightly thicker material doesn’t go see-through when wet, and it dries quickly, for maximum poolside confidence… and comfort.
For someone whose holiday vibe revolves around constantly dipping-in-and-out of the pool (and self-consciousness), these no-sag, modesty-sparing qualities have been game-changing.
So much so, that I’m officially on the crest of a new and unfamiliar ‘feminine urge’, and that is to reframe the reality of being 41, via the medium of a bit of good old fashioned rose-tinting (although it’s probably more of a baby pink.)
