ICE, ICE...MAYBE!

Updated: Dec 20, 2021

With ice rinks currently popping up all over the country, there’s never been a better time to take advantage of the many health benefits of skating.

Like any physical exercise, ice skating is a great way to build strength and

fitness, but as well as this, it lends uniquely well to honing body control and balance.

If you decide to go skating with friends or family, even better, as the added advantage of social connection makes the take-home from some time at the rink, surely too good to pass up this winter!

As if this isn’t persuasion enough to get our skates on - quite literally - in the coming months, there’s the selling point that skating is possibly one of the best sports for forcing the mind into the present.

As you focus on your balance and immediate surroundings, the over-active mind can enjoy a welcome breather, which ultimately strengthens the mental condition, especially over time.

Of course, an hour on the rink is not going to change your life in an instant, let's be honest!

At the very least, however, it is a fun and festive way to refresh your mind from the burden of bad news currently looming overhead.

At best, it is a poignant metaphor for this life we’re currently navigating, where the skill of self-propulsion, and harnessing own tractive power, is ironically about so much more than sporting prowess!
