It takes a lot for me to skip a run.
Come rain, shine, high day or holiday…very little stands in the way of that ten-minute sprint (correction, slow jog) around the block.

It’s for sanity, much more than anything else, and this goes a long way to explaining why I’m so ill at ease with the concept of ‘rest day’ (despite being well aware of the benefits of this practice.)
As far as idiosyncrasies go, I agree that there are worse ones to have, but when you’re meant to be ‘holidaying’ in not-so-sunny Bournemouth, the rain is horizontal, and ‘bracing’ is surely an understatement… I do even question this myself.
Luckily, this particular run was only as long as the deceptively short Bournemouth Pier would allow that bitterly cold December day, and the windburn and soggy trainers were (as they always are) quickly forgotten in the afterglow of a hot shower and cup of tea.
This feeling of smug satisfaction is evidence, if ever you needed it, that the science of ‘you never regret a run’ is alive and well, even in the depths of winter.
It’s also proof that there’s method in the madness of never leaving home without trainers, socks and a sports bra…
Granted I forgot the waterproofs on this occasion, but luckily the bamboo base layers wicked off some if not all of the rain, and the Sedz socks* I had strategically packed were equipped with ‘moisture management’ technology, which helped prevent those squelchy shoes from raining too much on my run-day parade!
Note:
*Sedz socks are engineered with a highly durable (and 100% recyclable) ‘Prolen’ material, which provides extra comfort and moisture management during extended wear. They come in an ankle, quarter and crew length design, and incorporate both anti-blister technology (which reduces friction) and cushioned support, making them perfect for a range of winter sports.
