Maybe it's just the time of year, but if there's one thing I've noticed in the last month, it's that my snacking habits have fallen more than a little by the wayside.
It's not for want of know-how, for the 'a Nutritionist should know better!' argument stands firmly to reason. However, the 3pm coffee-and-Double-Decker slope is a slippery one, and I find myself now, in the grip of this less-than-ideal habit.
Inevitably, however, all good things must come to an end, and in an attempt to right the nutritional wrongs carried over from the festive season, I've wasted no time in getting back on the 'snack prep' bandwagon...starting with some delicious (and wholesome) no-bake snack bars.
Made with Linwoods flaxseed, sunflower, punpkin seed, Goju Berry and chia seed mix, the bars are naturally a good source of protein and omega 3 fats, which play a particularly important role in the immune and metabolic functions that underpin 'winter wellness.' The recipe also requires rolled oats, dried fruit, date syrup and peanut butter, to bind the ingredients together.
Once the bars have set in the fridge (after approximately 2 hours,) they can be enjoyed either on the go, for breakfast, or between meals to help provide a slow-release of energy, and useful amounts of vitality-boosting B Vitamins and zinc.
Personally, I've found having a fridge stock of these sweet-yet-healthy treats has helped with creating positive 'pit stop moments' in the mid morning and afternoon, and I've no doubt that the benefits lie just as much in the 'sustenance' provided, as in the caffeine and noughat taken away!
