‘For dunking, dipping and generally devouring, fresh home made garlic bread has much to offer’

Updated: Aug 23, 2021

Soup season is nearly (*nearly) here, and it’s safe to say no Cream of Tomato is ever really complete without comfort food’s ultimate bit on the side… garlic bread!

For dunking, dipping and generally devouring, fresh home made garlic bread has much to offer in terms of useful carbs… not to mention the myriad of health benefits linked to garlic itself!!

From pantry to plate, the how-to is also easier than you’d think:

Just rub slices of toasted French bread with the peeled cloves, then chop and sprinkle over the bread along with a generous drizzling of olive oil.

Chopping the garlic, as opposed to grating or crushing it, is not just a helpful short-cut…it’s also better from a nutrition stance, since it turns more of garlic’s thio-sulfinite compounds into allicin, which boasts antibiotic, antifungal and cholesterol-balancing properties.

Granted, the cheesy, buttery version we know and love might still hold a place in our heart, but what this version lacks in melty herbyness… it makes up for in speed, delicious simplicity and resourcefulness (day-old bread scrubs up just as well as fresh!)
