Autumn… unpacked!

Updated: Oct 11

I probably say the same thing every year, but this autumn seems to have arrived, before summer even started.

I find myself bemoaning the lack of heat we’ve had, and the fact that the winter boots were no sooner retired, as reinstated.

That said, the return of all things cosy, makes the bitter pill of autumn infinitely easier to swallow.

I’ve heard these things referred to as ‘the warm fuzzies’ before now, and while slippers, blankets and log fires are obvious examples, it’s the less obvious warmth-bringers - the ones which transcend the parameters of home- that I tend to appreciate the most at this time of year.

What these look like…are fleecy boots, base layers…waterproof outerwear! Hoods. Umbrellas.

These are dark horses of the ‘warm fuzzies’ which - in my view - really cement the interplay between #cosycore and self care.

Mainly, this is because they directly buffer the impact of the elements on mind and body. Also, however- and perhaps more importantly - it’s because they allow for ‘business as usual’… in spite of the weather! ☔️

The school runs.

The park trips.

The ‘nipping-out’ to the shops.

Or for a walk.

Or a run.

In other words, all the things that feed into the bigger picture of health, and which the ‘hibernation’ blueprint for health - by contrast- tends to neglect the importance of.
