A new chapter…

Writer's picture: Caroline MatthewsCaroline Matthews

Having begun my writing career in print media, I’ve long maintained a preference for books and magazines… even when all the industry ‘noise’ insisted that digital was the future, and that publishers needed to ‘move with the times.’

Off the back of this un-wavering passion for print, I began a book project at the start of this year, which despite having been ‘bubbling’ for a little while, had never quite made it to the front-burner.

At this stage, the first draft is a good few months off completion, but with the visuals coming together (thank you Clare Keylock ) and the endless-editing of content well underway, it now feels within touching distance…which in itself is an incentive to keep going.

Of course, weaving the commitment this project requires into the existing framework of work, study, and family life is not without its challenges.

However, as is so often the case once the wheels are in motion, the only thing seemingly more difficult now than keeping going, is stopping.

To say I’m on a roll is an understatement, but still there are days when the imposter syndrome sets in, and going against the digital grain seems…ludicrous.

That said, the voice of reason always has a tendency to whisper quietly (but persuasively) in these moments…

‘If not now, then when!?’
