I’ve lost count of the number of parks and playgrounds I’ve visited in the last week.
These places and spaces - they have become my second home, in this annual turn of selfless summer events.
This is a lifestyle that I don’t necessarily begrudge, for there is much to be said for the happy-kids happy-mum equation.
However, the park is a particularly impoverished experience for an adult.
So much so, that it demands a little sweetener.
A little something to make the whole sitting-around-by-the-sandpit shenanigans a little more pleasurable.
That little something, this summer, is coffee.
It’s a token gesture to self, which works as an antidote to that last-in-the-pecking-order feeling, which can so often prevail at this time of year.
For the frayed nerves and feelings of run-raggedness, I’m finding the flat white is the ultimate salve.
A hot, velveteen reminder that as mums, we’re only ever one micro-treat away, from feeling like less of an afterthought in our own, carefully curated summer entertainment itineraries.
